Hi Kathy, I'm sure it's frustrating to have to wait this out. SS survivor benefits and disability have an added layer of complications due to lots of rules and regulations. Even if you're eligible to receive survivor benefits early, it would only be a percentage of his record. Unfortunately, I don't have any additional info for you other than to suggest you keep calling and follow up every few days to make sure all the parties involved are doing what they say they'll do. I'm wishing you lots of good luck.

What if I am on disability and have been since 1996. I am also 12 years younger than my deceased husband. I am 58 and will be 59 in June. My husband passed away in November 2020. I immediately called SS to apply for my widows benefits. After getting a call from my personal worker in mid December he said that it would take up to 90 days. Then after the first of the year 2021, he said that I would have to see a SS doctor. One was a mental health doctor which was by telemed in February. The other would be an in person appointment which was finally scheduled for April 5th. My social security worker said that they would have 30 days to reply with their findings. The doctor was really quick, didn’t talk except to tell me what to do and he said ok and started to walk into another room. I quickly asked him how long would it take. He replied we get these out pretty quick. My SS worker is pretty kind and informative. He said that once he received it he would go over it and send it to the next department and they would decide on amount within 3 days. I am still waiting to hear something. But I have been trying to live off of my disability benefits of $506.00 a month and stressing over this and if I will have enough to live on is making my health worse. My husband received around $2400.00 a month. Should I be expecting all, half, or another percentage of his check. My worker said I would get something additional to my current $506. but wasn’t sure how much. Do you have any information on this kind of situation and what happens if the doctor doesn’t get his report into them in 30 days. I would appreciate any information you may have.
